". . . one of our most valuable and misunderstood resources is our emotions." I so appreciate this point. We tend to think of emotions as something we have to "deal with" or "get over" or "make better." For me, it's much more helpful to consider emotional experience as an opportunity to learn something about myself that can help me grow in compassion for myself and others.

"Some part of us may like this half-asleep state, where nothing is too bright, too energetic, or too unknown."
What a great point. Seems like we constantly face a choice between being half-asleep or being awake. And we have so many enabling distractions--all the gadgets, TV, cell phone calls, etc., that can make it even easier to choose the half-asleep state. Great post!

This really speaks to me - especially the part about using emotional energy constructively before it gets bound into negative feelings and actions. Lately I've been focusing on trying to do just that not only when interacting with people, but also in any potentially frustrating activity where my emotions tend to take over and cause personal suffering.
