What’s in a Name?

When I heard the name Buddhist Geeks, I felt right at home!

– Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche

Buddhist Geeks launched its first offering, the Buddhist Geeks Podcast, at the beginning of 2007. Born out of a conversation between two Naropa University students in the coffee shops of Boulder, Colorado the Buddhist Geeks podcast became an instant hit among tech-savvy Buddhists looking for a fresh perspective on being a modern-day Buddhist practitioner. 3 years, and a couple of million downloads later, it has become clear that Buddhist Geeks is something more akin to a movement or community than just a weekly podcast program.

Why Free is the Right Price

If you’re trying to find your way as a young twenty-first-century Buddhist, don’t miss this funny, sincere, NPR-esque podcast by three Gen-Y geeks from Boulder.

We feel that the Dharma is a gift worth giving—indeed a priceless gift of incomparable value. And in-keeping with the spirit of generosity, which has sustained BuddhaDharma for millennia, it seemed only appropriate that we find a model for financial sustainability that incorporates the ideals of offering the Dharma freely. So, instead of making money from a premium service, with a very small number of people receiving the benefits of that service, we have been able, through your generosity, to launch the Buddhist Geeks Digital Magazine, and have it be accessible to everyone. In 2010 we launched the magazine site that you’re now on, and are able to offer all of our digital material completely free of charge. In the summer of 2011, we’ll be holding the first-ever Buddhist Geeks Conference. All of this has been made possible by the generosity of the Buddhist Geeks community.

Below you’ll find several options for supporting us in being able to continue offering high-quality digital dharma to the world. You can contribute by either giving a particular amount each month, in the form of a recurring donation, or by giving the equivalent of that amount, spread out over a years time, in one lump sum. You can give as little as $5 / month, or as much as one million dollars (think Dr. Evil). Seriously though, whatever amount you can afford and feel compelled to offer, will go a long way in helping us reach our goal of offering high-quality Buddhist wisdom to the wider world.
